Art in Schools (AIS)

Since 2012, the Augusta Art Guild has endeavored to enrich the creative experience for local schoolchildren by sponsoring visual arts programs. In 2015, AAG formally began the "Art in Schools for Augusta Independent Schools (AIS-4-AIS)" program. Each week, AAG volunteers provide an hour of Arts and Crafts activities for AIS students (grades 4-7) who would not otherwise have art classes. In recent years, AIS has expanded to include underwriting the cost of art supplies for all St. Augustine School students. This program has blossomed due to additional funding from the Hayswood Foundation, Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project, and our local community.

On December 15, 2015, the University of Cincinnati Filmmaking Department presented the program "The Art of Filmmaking" to AIS. Hosted by AAG and sponsored by a generous donation from Alan & JoAnn Tongret, students learned about storytelling, screenwriting, storyboarding, and production, resulting in the production of a scene inspired by the movie Hoosiers. The YouTube video to the left is the finished product.

Scholarships & Awards

Every spring, the Augusta Art Guild awards scholarships to deserving Bracken County students. The Judy Federer Art Scholarship is given to a graduating Bracken County senior who has excelled in the visual arts and who will be attending college or vocational school. For qualifying candidates in grades 7 - 12 and who reside in Bracken County, the Bobby Moloney Music Scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates an above average talent in music. For adults, the Perennial Bloom Award recognizes an Augusta Art Guild member who has been nominated for their "body of work" and community endeavors.

White Christmas Parade

The Augusta Art Guild supports and participates in many community events but one of our favorites is the White Christmas Parade held every December. Local businesses and organizations compete for bragging rights by creating floats that might be awarded the coveted "1st Place" award. Amazingly, some of our best float entries have been created with no pre-planning and only 24 hours before the parade!
